Why does Roomba take so long to connect to Wi-Fi?

There are several reasons why your Roomba might be taking so long to connect to the Wi-Fi. It can be due to weak Wi-Fi signals, the Home Base being too far from the router, Roomba's circuit issue, etc. You can fix this by following the steps given below!

  • Place the Roomba on the Home Base, and make sure that the Home Base is plugged in.
  • Now, check the lights on the Roomba and ensure that they are on.
  • Try to connect to the Wi-Fi again.

If this doesn't work, try the steps below.

Additional things to check:

  • Check if your Wi-Fi is working by testing it with another device

Make sure that you are using the same network on your laptop or phone as you are for Roomba, to check the Wi-Fi. This test will ensure if your Wi-Fi is working and is strong enough.

  • Check if the device is powered on
  • Don't just check if your Roomba is powered on, but also see if it is placed on the Home Base.
  • Ensure that the Home Base is plugged in.
  • Now, check if the lights on Roomba are on. If the lights are off, turn Roomba on by pressing the "Clean" button.
  • Once you complete these steps, try connecting Roomba to the Wi-Fi again.
  • You can do a factory reset on Roomba or reboot it

Sometimes, things can get a little messed up inside of the Roomba's circuit. Factory resetting Roomba can help you fix this. You can perform a reset on the robot, but the method varies from model to model.

If your Roomba is the 900 series model;

  • Hold down the "Spot Clean", "Dock", and "Clean" buttons simultaneously.
  • Keep them down until the LEDs light up on the robot.

In case you own one of the earlier models;

  • Press the same "Spot Clean", "Dock", and "Clean" buttons but do so until Roomba starts beeping.
  • Now, reset your Wi-Fi router, make sure that all the steps are fresh.
  • Once all of this is done, close the iRobot app and start the reset process again.
  • Make sure the Home Base is close to the router

The further the router, the weaker the signals will be. Move the router closer to the Home Base, especially if Roomba keeps losing connection again and again.

The ideal situation is if the Home Base and Wi-Fi router are in the same room. If your home is double story, then put the Home Base directly above your router on the top story. This is a great way to get stronger signals if you have a double-story house.

  • Take additional steps to get better Wi-Fi signals

If you have done all the steps above to ensure that your Wi-Fi is working, then either your robot's Wi-Fi catching is defective, or your Wi-Fi signals are not consistently strong.

If there are multiple devices sucking up your Wi-Fi's bandwidth, then make sure to reduce this number by checking the list of devices connected. It is best to disconnect devices that you use sparingly.
